Business Tours in Fox Chase, Tacony and Mayfair!
Over the past week, I’ve been going out and visiting small businesses across Northeast Philadelphia. Last week, I stopped by businesses in Fox Chase and this week, I joined Anya Chuyko and Reagan Chatman of the Department of Commerce, as well as Donny Smith, Executive Director of the Mayfair Improvement District, for walking tours in Mayfair and Tacony. Tacony Together also joined us for the Tacony portion of the tour! Our small businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods, and it’s important to hear directly from the people behind them. We stopped into businesses along both corridors to meet owners and employees and made sure they knew about the resources available to them. My office also hosts Small Business Office Hours with the Department of Commerce and the Mayor’s Business Action Team to help connect local businesses with the support they need. I look forward to continuing more of these visits across the district! Archbishop Ryan vs. Father Judge Game
The Ryan Judge Rivalry lived up to the hype last weekend! I had the pleasure of meeting students, parents, and staff from both schools and catching up with everyone who came out. After an overtime battle, Father Judge took home the win. I also had the honor of presenting Judge and Ryan players with the MVP and Sportsmanship awards after the game. Congratulations to both teams on a great showing and to Judge on the win! Cookout with the Cops of the 7th District
I had a great time stopping by the 7th District’s Cookout with a Cop this past weekend! It was great seeing so many neighbors out and getting the chance to catch up with the 7th district officers. Thank you for having me, and an even bigger thank you to the officers for everything you do each day to keep our community safe. Always a good time! Meeting with the Transport Workers Union Local 234
Tuesday, I sat down with Joe Coccio (Secretary/Treasurer) Will Warfield (Vice President) and Sam Schwartz (General Counsel) from Transport Workers Union Local 234 to talk about issues facing our transit workers. We had a productive conversation about Senate Bill 210, also known as Bernard Gribbin’s Law, which I introduced to strengthen protections for transit workers, as well as potential solutions to SEPTA’s funding challenges including taxing skill games to help fund public transit. I appreciate TWU Local 234 taking the time to meet and share their perspective. Keeping our transit workers safe and transit moving is a priority for me. 8th District Wiffle Ball Tournament
Our staff had a great time taking the field for the 8th Police District’s 5th Annual Community Wiffle Ball Tournament! Thank you to the 8th District and Parkwood Youth Organization for bringing neighbors together for some friendly competition and a great day in Northeast Philly. Historic Settlement with Meta Includes Social Media Protections
Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Pennsylvania and a multistate coalition have reached a settlement with Meta, owner of Instagram and Facebook, assuring the social media giant will implement sweeping changes to age verification, limit children’s time on their platforms and cut kids’ access to harmful content. The settlement, which involves up to $17.1 billion in national remediation payments, is contingent on other major social media companies agreeing to the same changes. Pennsylvania is expected to receive more than $500 million. The attorney general also filed a lawsuit against the owners of Snapchat regarding its failures to warn users of platform addictiveness and protect children from compulsive use. In recent years, I’ve worked with my colleagues to strengthen Pennsylvania laws against malicious deepfakes and AI child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and created the Task Force on Child Protection in the Digital Age. The Senate passed bills to enhance mandatory reporting requirements for AI CSAM and protect children from dangerous AI chatbot interaction. PA CareerLink® offers job search assistance, resume and interview workshops, access to more than 7,000 online training courses, classroom and on-the-job training, and many other programs and resources. It provides a wide range of resources for individual job seekers tailored for specific situations, such as mature workers, those re-entering the workforce, veterans, individuals with disabilities, young workers and more.
