Check Presentations at Holy Family University

Senator Picozzi with a group of people from Holy Family University giving them two presentation checks

It was an honor to present two checks to Holy Family University alongside Representative Gallagher to support important investments in the university’s future.

One investment will enhance the university’s Welcome Center with a new, modern addition, creating a more accessible and welcome space for student services and campus life. It’s important that students feel supported from the moment they step on campus, and this project will help do just that.

The second will support the launch of Holy Family’s EMS Training and Education Institute through the School of Nursing and Health Services. This program will create strong, hands-on career pathways for students interested in serving others, while also helping address workforce shortages and strengthen public safety across our region.

These investments are about expanding opportunity, supporting students, and ensuring Holy Family continues to grow as a strong partner in our community.

Archbishop Ryan Leadership Conference

I had a wonderful time participating in Archbishop Ryan’s leadership event that brought together students from across the archdiocese. I had the opportunity to share more about my role in the Senate and how I got involved in public service, and the importance of staying engaged in the community.

What stood out was the level of thoughtfulness and curiosity of the students. Many asked not just about the government, but about how to navigate challenges, stay focused, and pursue their goals. I am grateful for the invitation and look forward to continuing these conversations that help empower the next generation of leaders.

Visiting Father Judge’s AP Government Class

I always enjoy my time at Father Judge, and it was great to be back this week with their AP Government students. We had productive conversations on how our government works and why it matters. They asked great questions, shared their perspectives, and showed a real interest in their communities. It’s important that students know they have a voice, and conversations like this reinforce that their ideas and involvement truly matter.

Housing and Urban Development Tour

I was pleased to join my colleagues Joseph J. DeFelice (Assistant Deputy Secretary and Regional Administrator for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development), and Donny Smith (Executive Director of the Mayfair Business Improvement District) for a tour of the Frankford Avenue corridor to meet with business owners and see how we can continue to grow and reward their entrepreneurial spirit.  Through Donny’s leadership, and the time, talent, and treasure of the Mayfair commercial enterprises, the future looks strong for this historic hamlet.  As someone who was born and raised in the Northeast and now sit as a member of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, I will continue to work tirelessly to bring more resources and opportunities to our communities.

Mammo May: Early Detection Saves Lives

Light pink text reading “Mammography Month” over dark pink banner with photo of white mammography machine.

Continuing to build awareness on the importance of early breast cancer detection, the Pennsylvania Senate announced a Senate Resolution recognizing May 2026 as Mammography Month in Pennsylvania.

The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 322,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer nationwide this year. In Pennsylvania alone, an average of 38 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every single day. Alarmingly, nearly one in four women aged 50 to 74 have not received a mammogram in the past two years, despite strong evidence that early detection drastically improves outcomes.

Behind every mammogram is a life, a family and a future, which is why we continue to work with the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition to spread the word that early detection of breast cancer through mammograms saves lives. Mammograms are available at no cost in Pennsylvania. If you haven’t yet, use Mammo May as a reminder to schedule your mammogram – and please spread the word to the women in your life. This PA Breast Cancer Coalition resource page walks you through the steps of the mammogram process.
