Screen and Swing
Last Friday, my office hosted our first annual Screen and Swing Senior Expo. Thank you so much to the hundreds of people who came out for it! It was great to spend the morning with so many of our neighbors and see everyone enjoy themselves. I also want to thank all of the vendors who joined us and helped make the event possible. Our seniors have given so much to our neighborhoods and helped shape the communities we call home. It was nice to have a morning dedicated to them, spend some time together and hopefully have a little fun along the way. A special thank you to James Young for putting on a great Frank Sinatra show! We had a wonderful time, and I am already looking forward to next year. $17M Back to the District
I am proud to announce that since taking office, I have brought back $17,967,779 of state funding to Northeast Philadelphia! Through LSA grants, RACP funding and other state investments, these dollars are supporting organizations that serve our neighbors every day and projects that make us stronger. I am going to keep working to make sure our community gets the resources it deserves. Spending Time With Our Tacony Seniors
It is always a great way to start the week when I spend it with the Tacony Seniors at the Mayfair Recreation Center! I enjoyed sitting down for lunch with them, talking about some legislation I’m working on and most importantly, hearing directly from them about the issues they’re facing. It was especially nice to see a few familiar faces at our Screen and Swing last week and reconnect with some neighbors I hadn’t seen in a while. Thank you to the Tacony Seniors for having me! Always good to be back at Holy Ghost! I stopped by my alma mater this week and had lunch with a group of students before catching up with Principal Greg Geruson. I also got to spend some time with AP Government students talking about the legislative process, what my job as a state senator looks like day to day and some of what I’ve learned since taking office. I really enjoy having these conversations with students. I was around their age when I first started getting interested in government, and I hope they see that there’s a place for them to get involved too. We need the next generation to care about their communities, step up and bring their own ideas to the table – and it was great to see that interest at Holy Ghost. Visiting Girard College
I had a great visit to Girard College yesterday where I sat down with President David Hardy and learned more about the school and the programs they offer their students. Girard College is a full-scholarship boarding school serving students in grades 1-12, providing not only a strong education but opportunities and support that extend well beyond the classroom. It was great to learn more about what makes Girard such a special place and the work they’re doing to help their students succeed. I had a great time visiting Northeast Adult Day Care today and spending some time with the seniors there! Northeast Adult Day Care provides our seniors with a place to stay active, socialize and receive care and support throughout the day, offering everything from health and therapy services to meals, activities and transportation. I really enjoyed meeting with everyone, hearing what was on their minds and answering some of their questions. Thank you to the staff for having me and for all you do for seniors and their families here in Northeast Philadelphia! Second Office Opening!

Our Parkwood office isn’t going anywhere – we’re simply adding another location so our team can be more accessible and help even more of our neighbors across Northeast Philadelphia. Senate Bill Protecting Children from Harmful AI Chats Needs House Action
It’s critical that our commonwealth establish commonsense safeguards for children increasingly interacting with AI chatbots. The Senate overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation to do just that back in March, but the House of Representatives has yet to consider it. Senate Bill 1090 would require robust, age-appropriate safeguards to prevent content generation that encourages self-harm, suicide or violence against others, and directs users to appropriate crisis resources whenever high-risk language is detected. In recent years, vulnerable individuals, including minors, have used AI chatbots to cope with trauma, depression and anxiety, only to have chatbot responses allegedly contribute to deaths by suicide. I urge the House to pass this bill so it can be enacted before the year is out. Read more about this important measure. March for Life Brings Record Crowd to Capitol
The recent March for Life outside the state Capitol was the largest ever, with more than 6,000 people traveling from across the state to pledge their support for protecting the unborn. With the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning the unconstitutional Roe v. Wade, the battle to promote life over abortion is playing out in the states. It was especially heartening that so many of the enthusiastic participants in the march were young citizens who clearly understood the stakes. I will always be a voice for the voiceless and an advocate for the sanctity of life. Suicide Prevention Month Raises Awareness and Spreads Hope

The 988 Lifeline provides free and confidential support over call, text or chat for people in distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Empathetic, trained professionals provide prevention and crisis resources for you or someone you know. Certified Veteran-Owned Businesses Gain New Opportunities
Pennsylvania veteran-owned small businesses that get certified can be listed on a state database, opening doors to state contracting opportunities. To qualify for certification, businesses must be at least 51% veteran-owned, meet “small business” revenue and size standards, and hold a valid third-party certification. The state does not certify a business as veteran owned; it only verifies it. Find out how to obtain certification and third-party verification at the Department of General Services. |
